Greenwood (2009/10)
Greenwood was composed during my free time while I was working on a couple larger projects to complete my doctorate at The Ohio State University. This piece was composed purely for my personal enjoyment and not composed for a specific person or performance. I began the piece in August of 2009 and completed it during the second week of February, 2010.
Greenwood was originally inspired by Chopin’s Ballade in G minor. My originally intention was to compose a piece that alternated slow, melodic passages with virtuosic passages. The piece quickly went into a different direction, however, it does contain a little of the spirit of Chopin’s famous Ballade. Greenwood alternates between slower melodic passages and faster, somewhat virtuosic passages. In addition, G plays an important role, tonally in this piece.
